Prom Road walking out the door
New Waratah Hills label Prom Road is proving popular at Cellar Door. Our Prom Road Chardonnay recently received a brilliant review from Sydney wine writer Mike Bennie on the Winefront website: www.winefront.com.au

Bright, vital aromas that run somewhere between white orchard fruits and citrus with a hint of oatmeal and grassy complexity. Lovely, frisky entry that doubles up in the palate – lemony tang, more stone fruits and a lilt of grapefruit and green apple acidity to close. Massively drinkable yet piques interest for fine detail and lacy complexity. Doesn’t try too hard; just rewards youthful drinking. I’m up for it. Rated: 92 points.

Congratulations Marcus

Waratah Hills winemakers’ dinner at Moos
Waratah Hills winemaker Marcus Satchell will outline new wine trends, explain the distinctive local Pinot Noir terroir and examine the re-emergence of the wines of Gippsland at an exclusive winemakers’ dinner to be held at Moos at Meeniyan on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 7pm.

Moos’ owner Marty Thomas said the dinner was the first winemakers’ event to be hosted at the restaurant and is a development from the successful initiative launched last year featuring a ‘local winery of the month’. Waratah Hills wines will be featured at Moos throughout June.

Marcus Satchell is one of Gippsland’s most awarded young guns of the wine industry. He has judged at some of Australia’s top wine shows as well as stints with leading Yarra Valley and California vineyards.Since moving back to Gippsland he has worked with some of the region’s top producers Bass Phillip, Bellvale and Purple Hen. He has directed three vintages at Waratah Hills.

Moos is located on the corner of Whitelaw Street and the South Gippsland Highway in Meeniyan. Bookings are essential on 03 5664 0010 or email eat@moosatmeeniyan.com.au. The three course dinner designed to compliment the Waratah Hills wines will cost $70 (inclusive of wine).

Waratah Hills is one of the southernmost vineyards on the Australian mainland and is located on the road to Wilsons Promontory. The vineyard was planted 15-years ago and provides ideal growing conditions for the classic cool climate varieties of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
