Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is chiefly associated with the Burgundy region of France, where it is renowned and revered. The name is derived from the French word for “pine” and “black” alluding to the varietals tightly clustered dark purple cone-shaped bunches of fruit. The true character of Pinot Noir is expressed when it is grown in cool climates such as South Gippsland.
South Gippsland is regarded in Australia and around the world as a region ideally suited for the growing of Pinot Noir, the finesse, the elegance and the lightness achieved in this region are all characteristics associated with this complex variety.

Pinot Noir 2009
Waratah Hills 2009 Pinot Noir is an exceptional example of a beautiful Pinot Noir that will only getbetter with time. Minimal handling by the wine maker (Marcus Satchell) has preserved the intrinsic flavour of the grapes and has resulted in a sophisticated wine.
2009 was a challenging season. Low rainfall and an uncharacteristic heatwave during the ripening period resulted in a very low yielding crop. The small bunches and intensely flavoured berries has produced a deep red, complex, spiced wine with a hint of cherry flavour. Matured in high quality French oak for 10 months and bottled without fining or filtration.
Stored carefully this wine will age gracefully for at least 10 years.
